Notice of Advance Elector Registration – 2021 School Trustee By-Election – Electoral Area 2 (Terrace)

 

  • Are you eligible to vote in the School Trustee By-election for the Board of Education of School District 82 (Coast Mountains) to elect one Trustee for Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) detailed below to be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021?

Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) (the City of Terrace, northwest area of Kitimat-Stikine Regional District including New Remo, Kalum Lake Drive and Rosswood)

Completed forms must be submitted to the Board of Education Office for School District 82 located at 3211 Kenney Street, Building A, Terrace on or before January 12, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.  The school district has established protocols to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.  This includes limiting the number of people who are at the Board of Education Office.  Please contact the Executive Assistant by phone at (250) 638-4401 or by email at carole.gagnon@cmsd.bc.ca to schedule an appointment to submit your voter registration form if you wish to register in advance of voting day.  Advance Elector Registrations will not be accepted after 4:30 p.m. on January 12, 2021.  If you do not register in advance, you will still be able to register at the time of voting on February 24, March 3 or March 6, 2021.

ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS

RESIDENT ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age older on general voting day for the election; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS

Beginning January 19, 2021 until the close of general voting for the election on March 6, 2021, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the Board of Education Office for Coast Mountains School District 82 located at 3211 Kenney Street, Building A, Terrace, between the office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.  Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.  An elector may request that their address or other information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors.

OBJECTION TO REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 p.m. on February 3, 2021.  An objection must be in writing and may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) and can only be made on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or that a person whose name appears on the list of electors is not qualified to be registered as an elector of Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace).
